Chinese language teacher we
recruit, train, groom and appointed to conduct our Chinese language courses
and/or seminars.
Among our chief considerations are:
- Excellent command of the Mandarin Chinese language
(with or without a degree or advanced degree in Chinese language)
- Interests and knowledge of Chinese history, culture, traditions, literature,
philosophy, and strategies
(with or without a degree or advanced degree in Sinology)
For a teacher of the Chinese language,
of course a very good command of
practical and theorical Mandarin
Chinese language is a must. Apart from
being able to teach the Mandarin
Chinese language well, a Chinese
language teacher who has a great command of the language will be able to
answer any queries from any students (at all time) and dispel whatever
doubts they have so that the latter could successfully learn and
master the beautiful and practical Mandarin
Chinese language.
On top of that,
an interest in and knowledge of Sinology
will be an added advantage. Why? Because from our experience, we know for sure
that any Chinese language teacher
(of any race or nationality), who understands China
and the Chinese better, will be much more effective in teaching the
Chinese language.
A Chinese language teacher
who does not know China and the Chinese, will be
limited or restriced in his / her ability to fully appreciate and understand
many aspects of the Chinese language.
Apart from the above pre-requisites, these are the other "soft-skills" we also
look for:
- Dignified character and unquestionable level of honesty
- A love for teaching, and also a willingness to learn from others
- Down-to-earth but proactive attitude
- Humility and respect for others
- Acceptable level of public speaking skill (20 - 500 people)
- Fairly good command of either or both the English and Malay language.
- Knowledge of other Chinese dialects (eg. Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka,
Foochow, Hainan, etc.)
- Any experience and/or knowledge of Business & Management.
On top of the necessary knowledge (not just qualification), experience and
skills, what we cared about most is the character and attitude of a teacher.
For a teacher to be effective, he / she must command the respect of his / her
students. The dignity and virtue of a teacher does in a big way affect
his / her ability to effectively reach and guide each and every student.
A Mandarin Chinese language teacher
is more than just a tutor. He / She is also
a guide, a personal coach, an instructor, and a mentor to his / her students.
And often he / she also needs to be a trusted friend and fellow traveller
on the journey of discovery, learning and mastery of the
Mandarin Chinese language.
An honest, wise, respectable and brave person best qualifies to be a teacher.
And of course, the most effective teacher is one who is willing to become a
student too.
